Released as one of three bottlings from the Bruichladdich Rare Cask Series at the tail end of 2017, this expression is a marvellous 32 year old single malt distilled in 1985. It matured initially in third-fill bourbon casks before then-master distiller Jim McEwan moved it over to fresh bourbon casks in 2012. In 2017, it was given a finishing period in French oak from an acclaimed chateaux. A release of 4,200 bottles.
Tasting note from Master of Malt:
On the nose, honey'd barley dusted with cacao. Fresh orange and lime, plus a little hint of honeydew melon. A suggestion of savoury basil. On the palate, coconut ice cream with chocolate sauce, plum grapes, oak-y cinnamon and waxy pine. The finish, a lingering sweetness of peach and pear.
