The 2015 Limited edition Laphroaig 15 year old which was bottled to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the distillery.
Nose: Quite delicate at first with more green papaya, lime pickle, dried seaweed to begin then comes the anise, white pepper, with just subtle hints of the iodine, boggy/mossy peat. Add in some smoked grapefruit, dusty vanilla & sooty floral notes
Palate: lovely combination of fruit and smoke here with grapefruit, lime, tinned pear balanced by sooty white pepper smoke. some earthy-herbal notes mid palate then sweet tarry vanilla, aromatic tea chest oak and salty liquorice.
Finish: lime cordial, ripe pear, grapefruit, white pepper, anise, bonito fish flakes, salty vanilla, green herbs and the classic Laphroaig iodine on this long finish. Takes a while to reveal itself and not the in your face peaty offering of old but a more balanced and nuanced Laphroaig and a suitably excellent 200th anniversary offering.
